Summer just may be my favorite time to read. There is nothing better than a page-turner by the pool. I also love to swim around and see what folks are reading, in the most stealth (non-creepy) way possible.
Here are my top four books from this summer.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
I missed the boat on this one by several years. Stephen Chbosky tackles the transition from child to teen in a most glorious fashion. I could not put this book down.
You Think It, I'll Say It
Curtis Sittenfeld brought me great joy with these ten short stories. She is a sharp wit and an author with the ability to draw you in quickly to a character's life.
Martin Dressler: The Tale of an American Dreamer
This was the 29th Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction that I have read, and it was an especially good story. Steven Millhauser paints an utterly absorbing portrait of an ambitious young man in New York City at the turn of the twentieth century.
Things You Save in a Fire
I really dig Katherine Center's writing style. Reading this book, I laughed, I cried, I shook my fist in anger, I cheered, I did any number of things one does when reading a perfect summer book.
