St. Augustine

Updated: Oct 30, 2018

Is St. Augustine the most wonderful place in the world? No. Is it the oldest city in the United States and the place where my husband and I became engaged? Yes, yes it is...therefore it will always hold a very special place in my heart. St. Augustine is a perfect place for a romantic weekend. October is an excellent time to visit, as there were not a lot of tourists around.

Beauty Products

If you know me at all, you know that I adore make up and lotion and perfume and all things glittery. At Bath Junkie, you choose a bath product (sparkly lotion for this gal, natch) and then you get to the smelling.

You can add up to three flavors. I usually go for the fruity scents, accented by a bit of floral undertones.

You can 'reset' your nose by sniffing on coffee beans between samples. All that is left to do is choose a color and you are on your way with a signature scent!

Ice Pops

I love walking around and checking out all of the quaint shops. A perfect break is to grab a sweet treat at The Hyppo. The ingredients are all fresh, not processed, and hella creative. (Prosecco Mango, Blueberry Datil and everything in between!) Get yours dipped in chocolate for a buck, The Doc highly recommends it.

Bonus points for the owner having a Montana connection, because Montana connections make everything just a little bit cooler.

Eats

Our favorite bites of the trip were at Blackfly The Restaurant. The menu offers seafood and pizza, which seems like an odd marriage but actually works out quite nicely.

Craft Cocktails

It is so hard to make a quality drink. The folks at Ice Plant Bar are killing it in this arena. According to their website, "Our mission is to return to the craft of ice harvesting by freezing purified water in large blocks. Our bartenders can make drinks colder and with precisely the desired amount of dilution." Science: not my best subject. But I know a well-made drink when it hits my lips, and these folks have the goods. I can't wait to go back and try the Farm-to-Table food menu.

Sadly I cannot recommend the restaurant we got engaged at or the hotel where we stayed. What I can recommend is revisiting your own personal history as a couple. Lucky for us, we took this walk down memory lane through a town steeped in history complete with scenic views.

I am so lucky in the sense that I have a p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ extremely romantic husband. He does sweet things for me on the daily. We have been so focused on our future and the transition from residency that we sometimes forget how far we have come.

When we got engaged medical school wasn't even on the table. We didn't even live together at that point.

When he asked me to marry him that day, I now realize that that was the day we became a family.

Tell me your engagement story! I love hearing how people met. Was it sweet? Did you know right away? Did you have to wait a million years like me to find just the right person?
