San Diego

I was already in love with San Diego before I ever stepped a foot off of the plane, thanks to the movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. That is one of those classic movies that made me laugh a tremendous amount and I still quote to this day.

The home of Ron Burgundy and some March Madness?! The weekend really couldn't go wrong.

Hoops

I love sports. I grew up playing several (poorly) and I enjoy participating and watching to this day. My favorite to watch? NCAA basketball. I have loved the North Carolina Tar Heels for decades (the first home I ever owned had a dedicated UNC room) and I attended Montana State University, so those are my teams. Every year, on the holiday known as Selection Sunday, I grab a pen and one of my journals and old-school write down the 64 teams (technically 68, but that is a discussion for another day) and start to ponder my bracket choices.

This year we had already decided to partake in The Madness in San Diego (hosted by San Diego State University), since we are exploring cities near our new home in Arizona. When they announced the teams for SD, I was shocked to hear the MSU Bobcats called as a 14 seed! The last time they were in the Big Dance was 26 YEARS AGO! I was ecstatic.

The Bobcats were handed a pretty solid beatdown, but I am still proud to be an alumni. I did get a lot of grief for that shirt as the day went on.

Stadium Eats

We had tickets for the first and second rounds, which means that we saw 4 games on Friday and 2 on Sunday. We sampled many, many, many goodies from Viejas Arena. March Madness is an endurance event, and you need snacks to get you through the games!

The stars of this progressive dining experience were that sweet treat from Caked (how are there not more delicious strawberry-based cookies in my life?) and the pizza from Dang Brother. The line for that pie was ridiculously long all weekend. I got a little sunburn waiting for mine, but it was worth it.

Shopping

We loved our time walking around Seaport Village. It was so scenic and everyone is super friendly. We made our own body scrub and lotion at Sinfulicious and clocked in a lot of steps. We stayed in the Gaslamp District, and I love how walkable that area is.

Foodies and Romance

Sugar Factory

We are so lucky that we have a schedule that permits us to take these romantic little trips. This was our favorite kind of adventure: We walk, we hold hands, we find a little snack, we learn about the world, together.

Ceviche at Puesto

Turkish Coffee and Lokmas. Please note the Tar Heel mani.

Animal Style Beef Tartare at Lionfish

Do you watch March Madness? Who is your team?
