Being married means that every night is date night. In a pre-Covid world, that usually meant dinner out during my husband's work weeks, and during our off weeks that was time for traveling or planning our next great adventure. Sometimes, that even meant planning a vacation while on a vacation. We worked so hard to get to that point.
Now, just like the rest of the world, we are chilling at home. While we are both super thankful for our health...we started going a little stir crazy. The highlight of one week was cutting/coloring each other's hairs. We were used to going at a fast pace and exploring the world. So, we tried to get creative.
Luckily I married a good sport and a quarantine dream.
Foods and Boozes
We eat out. A lot. That has probably been the biggest adjustment. We get take out from time to time to support local businesses, but I live in a town that does not have one single restaurant with food that I love.
I am beyond thankful for nationwide food delivery. We have had lobster rolls from Maine, tamales from Tuscon, Chicago-style pizza, and some pretty amazing sweet treats thanks to Goldbelly. (I have coupons if anyone wants to try that service, shoot me your email.) I also enjoyed bison meatloaf from Wild Idea. (The bison came with a free book, bonus points for that company.) Cookies were ordered from our favorite place in Sonoma, The Girl and the Fig.
We also enjoyed a wine tasting with Sarah Jessica Parker (SATC is still my all-time favorite show) via Zoom and Wine.Com.
It was a perfect reason to dress up and pretend like we had to be somewhere. The Sauvignon Blanc was delicious.
She's Crafty
As a couple, we are big fans of a make-and-take date night out. We have done an embarrassing amount of Painting with the Twist classes. (Most now reside at the bottom of a landfill somewhere.) To bring some of that fun home, we have been perusing kits. We found a bath bomb kit on Etsy and a painting set at Michael's.
The Great Outdoors
During the craziness, it is so important to get outside. I feel a million times better once the fresh air hits me. We have been golfing a lot, practicing our ballroom dancing, playing some hoops and tennis. We also basically figured out our new life plan whilst taking many, many walks around our neighborhood.
Gamers
Before I met Spencer, he had collected a ridiculous amount of various Monopoly boards. We have played them all. Other favorites? Bananagrams, Scrabble, and Yahtzee. I had not really played video games since college, I forgot how much fun they are. We beat Overcooked 2 and are currently addicted to Sonic Racing.
We also have weekly Karaoke parties. I love music so much, I always thought Karaoke would be so much fun but I would NEVER do it in public thanks to my beyond monotone voice. The Doc, sadly, is also not of the songbird ilk. Another reason we are perfect together. We are currently working on the choreography for our duet for Regulate.
