We recently went on our first international adventure. I have always been interested in Art History, so when we decide to go to Paris, seeing the art work was at the top of my list.
(I will have different Paris posts, divided into categories.)
Musee d'Orsay
My very favorite museum from the whole trip, and that is saying a lot. I once took a full semester class at USF in St. Petersburg about Vincent van Gogh. Many wonderful paintings by him are at this gorgeous venue.
The impressionist era is one of my favorites, and the quality of work here is unbelievable. Luckily, Spencer never tires of hearing me spout random art facts. Some of them are even true.
Musee Rodin
We visited this stellar collection on a rainy day. A new exhibit also featured many of Auguste Rodin's drawings and collages.
The building is surrounded by beautiful gardens, and there is nothing quite like seeing the leaves change in Paris in autumn.
The collection also boasts a few van Gogh paintings, so that was a pleasant surprise. And another opportunity for me to run on at the mouth.
Musee du Louvre
The pinnacle of all museums, or so it would seem. It was incredible, beautiful, and... overwhelming.
Thank goodness there was a beautiful cafe, where I was able to rest my trashed feet and shove croissant and cappuccino into my face to fortify myself.
I have never been a huge Mona Lisa fan, but I will say I got chills when I turned a corner and saw her. There is something magical about that gal!
Musee du Parfum Fragonard
I am in fact a bit of a girly girl. I was excited about the art, but I was also a little giddy at the thought of getting my wee hands on some Frenchy perfume. This experience was a little hazy. The Doc and I didn't sleep at all on the plane. We rolled into Paris at seven in the morning. We arrived at the hotel and found out that those nice folks would let us check in early...but not until 10:30. Luckily we were a stone's throw from this perfume museum.
I kept singing, "Down at Fragonard" *clap*clap* to the tune of Fraggle Rock, in case you are wondering exactly how annoying I can be. We were running on fumes at that point, but it was interesting and I do now smell fantastic.
We actually hit a saturation point on Saturday afternoon, where my eye holes could not look at any more paintings. What is the best museum experience you have ever had?
