The very first trip I ever took with my husband (then my sweet boyfriend) was to O-Town. It was about 5 months into our relationship. I had only been on girls' trips for decades; needless to say, I was a bit freaked out and the expectations were high. We had a magical (I had to take the easy route there) time. During the rest of our time living in Florida, we took many quick weekend trips on I-4 over to Orlando. We are so excited that we get to start revisiting one of our favorite places as a couple, and Spencer loves telling all of his childhood tales from his many visits to the parks.
Day Date
Disney Springs offers many high quality restaurants and shops. Spencer would often go here (to a previous version) on his way back home to Tampa after a fun weekend. I love hearing his stories.
We pulled into town and ended up at Splitsville. High quality sushi? Bowling? An epic beat-down? It was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Hoops
I love basketball with an almost disturbing fervor. We hadn't been to an NBA game in quite a while, due to that crazy residency business. We love the Amway Arena (home of the Orlando Magic).
We had some tasty snacks and caught an overtime game with the eventual winners, the Denver Nuggets. I am a new fan of Mo Bamba and I loved the comfy seats.
Downtown
We love Lake Eola. There are so many great activities, art, and restaurants within a fairly easy walking distance of the lake. We are big fans of the swan boats; $15 for 30 minutes and you can't beat the view. I saw a black swan and almost lost my cool. Hashtag Natalie Portman.
Eats
Spencer's Uncle took us to dinner at Hash House A Go Go. I had heard about this place for years and we just saw one in Vegas. The place boasts 'Twisted Farm Food' and their claim to fame is huge portions. The staff is crazy friendly and the menu is the stuff of a pothead's dream.
The best part of the meal was Spencer's Bloody Mary. It came with a piece of bread & mayo so you could make a BLT.
I probably wouldn't go there again (so much food!) but I would encourage everyone to go at least once.
Where is your favorite 'quick weekend' getaway?
