My plan to escape the Arizona heat hatched when it reached day #35 of temperatures at 115 or higher.
My plan failed miserably (it was in the 90s with 85% humidity when we arrived), but we managed to have some fun despite the pouring of the sweat. I had been through the MSP airport too many times to count (one of my favorites!) but I had never stayed in the city.
Mississippi Queen
After a long post-Juicy Lucy walk we jumped on a cruise of the Mississippi. We used Paradise Charter Cruises and enjoyed a cold local beer and learned a little history.
Take Me Out To The Ballgame
The Minnesota Twins have the honor of being my 13th baseball park. I have always said that baseball venues have the best game day eats, and Target Field proved my point once again. The best bite of the night was the 60/40 burgers from Red Cow. (60% beef & 40% ground bacon patty, wisconsin aged cheddar, beer mustard and candied bacon.) Incredible. It was also, randomly, Harry Potter night and that included post-game fireworks. We were sitting in the front row on the third base side, which was great for baseball and firework viewing alike.
Walk This Way
We walked by the Mary Tyler Moore statue and I was reminded that my hair game had a whole different strategy when I lived in muggy Florida. I forgot from whence I came!! The statue is fabulous.
We made our way towards the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and were mesmerized by the talent, variety, and sheer size of every piece. That blue rooster was everything.
Yes to All of the Food
We were in Minneapolis for a short time, but we managed to sample a few delicious bites and drinks.
If there is a Melting Pot in the area, we usually give it a try (this was our 8th different location!) We opted for the Thusdate menu, and it was wonderful.
I loved the vibe at employee-owned Hell's Kitchen Minneapolis. The virgin drinks (Berry and Thyme Spritz and Virgin Mary...with a beef stick!) were especially yummy.
I was OBSESSED with the delicate little flower in my Bee's Knees at Farmers Kitchen & Bar.
The best bite of the trip was this Panang Spaghetti at Gai Noi, my first Laotian restaurant.
Have you been to Minneapolis? What are you doing to 'escape' the heat in this historically hot summer?
