Some days you dream of a place you want to visit, like Paris.
Some days you explore the area that you are new to, like Tuscon.
Some days you want to visit family.
And some days you plan a trip because you refuse to eat airline credits.
Such is Boston.
When we were still living on the east coast, we planned a trip to Jamaica. We found a decent flight out of Orlando on JetBlue. The pandemic hit and we canceled multiple trips. Then (thanks to a vision board!) we moved to Arizona. We got vaccinated and started feeling safe(ish) to travel again.
Thus begins the saga of trying to use our JetBlue credits.
JetBlue has very limited flights originating in our new corner of the world. And the flights they do offer? We couldn't use our credits due to restrictions. No 'Mint' flights. No flights that use another airline. No flights that fly on a day that end in 'y'. We spent countless hours on the phone, the Twitter, the app, the email.
The only choice (unless we wanted to do red eye flights, crazy connections, or interminable layovers) ended up being Boston.
History
Boston is filled from one end to the other with all kinds of American History. Our favorite part of the trip was walking the entire Freedom Trail. You can download an app and become your very own tour guide.
Stadium Eats
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of sports. I worked at The Trop in St. Pete (#RaysUp!) for five seasons. I can say, with absolute certainty, that Boston sports fans are my least favorite of all of the fans in all of the land. With this knowledge we nervously attended a Bruins/Panthers game. I definitely saw some of those behaviors that I remembered from my stadium days.
Luckily, the food, the workers, and a close game made up for the fans. Please behold the 'Bucket of Nachos' in all its glory. It was one of the best things we ate all weekend!
Presidential Libraries
One of our travel goals is to visit all of the Presidential Libraries. The JFK in Boston was impressive. We had recently read a book about the 1960 election, so it was surreal to see those words come to life through exhibits.
The Doc enjoyed the Oval Office and I was fascinated by all of the gifts from other countries bestowed upon the President and First Lady. The most moving part of the tour was a room with several screens that kept changing to show all of the tributes to JFK across the world.
Not a Wanker
We love Halloween. A few weeks ago we binge watched Ted Lasso and fell in love with the show, just like everyone else. Spencer was a perfect Ted Lasso and I went as Game Day Keeley.
We were staying right next to Faneuil Hall and went on a pub crawl. Not much for crawling, we basically just found some snacks and had a nice walk.
Believe!
Would you have given up the tickets? Or donated them? Or gone on a wicked random trip?
