Full disclosure: I love me some Bravo TV. If you haven’t seen Southern Charm, you are missing out on all that is right (and borderline disturbing) in the world of Reality TV. The men on this show are fascinating; they are handsome, rich, drunk, and not one of them has an ounce of integrity or ambition. It is like watching another species altogether. Anyhoo, they know how to have a good time and I always thought that Charleston looked like a great place to visit. I didn’t love it, but two of the activities we did here were the overall favorites from our 8-day 4-city road trip.
Do enjoy, y’all.
Wine
The venue for this activity (Wine Blending by Kessler) is located in the gorgeous Grand Bohemian Hotel. I will fully admit to having hotel envy; we walked in here after staying two nights at our uber old (and loud. And creepy.) hotel just down the street. As I held back tears of borderline jealousy, The Doc and I were escorted into a lovely bar area.
What lay ahead? An hour long wine blending activity, grape edification, cheese, many laughs, and two bottles of personalized wine to take home. This was one of the highlights of our entire trip.
Sightseeing
Never will I ever be on a boat and not sing some Lonely Island. We decided to hop on the Schooner Pride at the last minute. It was an excellent choice. We lucked into some great weather, had a few tiny bottles of red wine, and took in the sights. We also loved that this was not a narrated tour; sometimes it is good to just be quiet and enjoy the ride.
Eats
Charleston hosted season 14 of Top Chef. We are rabid fans of said show. There are a plethora of fine restaurants in the area; we opted for one dinner at 5Church. One of the owners here is local Cheftestant Jamie Lynch. He was featured that season for being the only one ever to give up immunity. That fact plus the crazy cool venue (a restored church) made it an easy decision. We were wowed by the meatballs, everything else was just okay. It is worth it to dip in here for those balls and a drink and check out the stained glass.
Art
Charleston is a town steeped in art. There are galleries seemingly on every block. Our creepy hotel boasted local artwork and actually houses an on-site artist. Art is for sale in every restaurant. There are museums galore. I am always fascinated by talented folks, as I have no artistic ability myself.
