In these uncertain times, I am going to lean on my friends the books.
Hard.
So far this year I have read 20 titles. Oddly, none of them really stand out as new favorites. I enjoyed quite a few of them, but no core shakers here. So, I thought I would highlight books from a few different genres.
Happy reading, and stay safe out there, folks.
Mayflower
Mr. Philbrick goes way deep on this one. My husband is a Mayflower descendant and we wanted to read this before the 400th anniversary this year. It goes way beyond what we learned in school. It is educational, inspiring, upsetting, and super violent.
The Good Earth
So far I have read 30 Pulitzer Prize winners for Fiction. Pearl S. Buck transports us to a farm in China. Hard work, the horrors of being a girl or woman in early history, and appreciation for the land around you are the themes that jumped out at me.
The Master and Margarita
My brother Casey is crazy smart and an avid reader. I try to read a few of his suggestions every year, and I always feel like I have accomplished a great feat upon finishing. Mikhail Bulgakov welcomes us into Russia in the 1930s. It is satire on crack.
Good Girls Lie
J.T. Ellison is one of my favorite modern authors. I saw her speak at a book fair a few years back, and she is truly inspiring. Her latest focuses in on an elite all-girls school where one of the students is found dead. Perfect if you like thrillers, and it will make you thankful for your public school education. Follow this lady on Twitter for some fabulous insights and positivity.
