Visiting Atlanta now, after surviving residency there, will forever feel like a triumph. We always had a list a mile long of the things we wanted to do when we lived there; often times we didn't have the time, energy, or pennies to do these things. So now, when I cross into The ATL, I always remind myself of just how far we have come. We had a quick weekend getaway, please enjoy a few of my favorite moments.
Chop On
The Atlanta Braves are doing well this season! The new SunTrust Park is a gorgeous ballpark. There are endless food options, it is small and modern, and it's always a good day to catch a ball game with my sweetheart.
The Doc and I always like to eat the house specialty when we visit stadiums. We saw the Blooper Burger advertised, and we knew we had to have it. Four cheeseburgers, one footlong hotdog, chicken tenders, candied popcorn, and the kitchen sink. This was enough to feed a family and enough to embarrass me walking to our seats. I picked some of the extras off and ate the burger, which was very tasty! I also liked that when we ordered it, the gentleman taking our order started clapping and cheering for us.
As with all things Atlanta, it is kind of a traffic nightmare to get to the park.
Hairs
As you know from a previous post, I struggle with my hair-do being a hair-don't. Luckily, I got a pretty great blow out at Toni&Guy at Perimeter Mall. I was also able to try eyebrow threading for the first time (at another location) and I think I am a fan. I really miss all of the amenities that a big city has to offer!
Meat Wasted
We had only been to a Brazilian steakhouse one time, in Miami, for my birthday in 2013. It was high time we revisited! We went to Fogo de Chao on a Friday night. If you have never been to one of these places, I can highly recommend it for the fun experience. Each guest is given a chip; flip it to the green side, and an endless parade of dudes with meat on skewers will come right to your table and share the goods with you. You then turn the chip to the red side to say, stop, no mas. They also offer a pretty amazing salad bar and sides to share at the table.
Full disclosure: the best part of the meal is the pao de queijo. These little puffs of cheese bread are straight from heaven, and the fine folks working here keep them coming throughout the course of your meal. Glorious. We ordered a strawberry cream topped with black currant liqueur for dessert. We were impressed with the lightness and the fact that our dessert matched Spencer's jacket.
Lord, what fools these mortals be!
I love Shakespeare, quite a bit. Atlanta boasts one of the coolest venues to catch the bard's work, Shakespeare Tavern. You walk through a line, cafeteria style, and order your foods and boozes.
It is a little tricky balancing everything while getting to your table, I would have never made it as a waitress. You eat, drink, and enjoy an excellent show. We were lucky enough to see A Midsummer Night' Dream, one of my favorites.
This place is one of the best out there for a date night, and it kicked up my excitement to go to The Globe in London later this year.
Where are you headed to on summer vacation?
